Company History:

CMK was founded in 1992 as a family-owned wire harness shop. Our company started from humble beginnings housed out of Mel & Carol Kugel’s basement. Later, we expanded to the garage, and then to a “barn” facility, which was built on their home property to house their expanded production needs. When our production continued to increase, we moved to a leased building in Eagle, WI in 1996. Finally, in 2007, CMK moved to our current, state-of-the-art, 15,000 square foot production facility and corporate office located in the industrial park in Eagle, WI.

CMK’s initial work force included neighbors, friends, and family. Mel and Carol’s eldest daughter, Debbie, and youngest son, Scott, helped with the growth, management, and transition of our company to our leased facility in Eagle, WI. Our founders, Mel and Carol Kugel eventually left their full time jobs with their respective employers to come on board full time to manage the business and office operations. This decision was made after Debbie’s death, following her battle with cancer, and Scott’s understandable decision to move on.

Today, CMK Enterprises has grown into a company with eleven full time and three part time employees, as well as help from Mel and Carol’s grandchildren when needed.

In 2006, Rick Kugel, Mel and Carol’s eldest son, joined our company to learn the business and take over the day-to-day operation of the company. Rick is now our company President, Mel is our CEO, and Carol is our Office Manager/Controller. Additional family members include Cheryl, Rick’s sister, and Lori, Rick’s wife.

Calmer Industries was founded in 1998 as a control panel shop started by Mel Kugel out of his home when he retired from his corporate sales job with Interstate Electric. When he came on board full time as President of CMK Enterprises, he combined the two companies at our current location.
